The itinerary of some important balneal and climacteric resorts, placed at east and west of northern chain of Oriental Carpathians

Medias: city set on the shores of Tarnava mare river. Vestiges from the Bronze Age and Iron Age; documentary attested in 1267 – Villa Medies. Fortress (XIV-XV; vestiges); museum of history; monuments of architecture (XVI-XVII century). Surroundings:  Baza (permanent balneal-climacteric resort, 321m. alt., recommended for treating the diseases of locomotive system, genecology).

Biertan: village placed on the valley of the river with the same name. ancient settlement, vestiges from IV century. Ground fortress; medieval fortification (1522), trough the most imposing from Transylvania; old architecture (XVIII-XIX with the symbols of the past’s crafts.

Sighisoara: city set on the shore of the river Tarnava Mare. Marks of Wietengerg, Dacian, Roman cultures; documentary attested in 1191, 1288; fortress (XIII-XVI), the most representative  medieval urban settlement from the country; history museum; monuments of architecture (XIII-XVIII); Pasajul Scarilor.

Toplita: city at the confluence of the river Toplita with Mues, between Calimani and Giurgeu. Ancient settlement, hypothetical Dacian Sangidava. Balneal-climacteric resort “Bradul” -650m. alt. recommended for rheumatism, diseases of nervous system, alimentary channel.

Borsec: city on the depression with the same name between Bistrita mountains and Giurgeului. Roman vestiges. Permanent balneal-climacteric resort -900m. alt., its waters known and recommended since XVI century. Therapeutic indications: endocrine affections, affections of cardio-vascular system, alimentary channel, hepatic- biliary, asthenia neurosis. Surroundings: waterfall-defile Bistricioara; Grota Ursilor, Pestera de Ghiata, Cetatea Bufnitelor, the heights Faget-Fagetel (around 1100m. alt.; ski tracks); Tulghes gorge-100m.alt.; Bilbor village (balneal – climacteric resort, 1050m. alt. recommended in treating the affections of the alimentary channel, renal and urinal system).

Durau: touristic complex (800m. alt.) placed at the foots of the northern versant of Ceahlau (1907m. alt.).Monument of architecture (1835); The Holiday of Ceahlau (folkloric event in August). Surroundings: the chalets: Fantanele (1220m. alt.), Dochia (1750m. alt.); Duruitoarea waterfall (1250m. alt); Schit village (Palatul cnezilor-palace from XVII-XVII; ruins); Ceahlau village (new settlement on the shores of the reservoir Izvoru Muntelui, 625m. alt.; harbor, archaic technical installations).

Bicaz: city at the confluence of Bicaz with Bistrita. Museum of history; harbor on the shore of Izvorul Muntelui lake. Surroundings: Pangarati village (monument of architecture, 1558; museum); Izvorul Muntelui chalet (797m. alt.); Tarcau village (monument of architecture, 1833); Neagra village- Dochia chalet (4-5hours).

Lacu Rosu: climacteric and winter sports practicing resort (1000m. alt.). settled on the shore of a lake formed in 1837 at the foots of Ghilcos mountain, due to a landslide that closed up the springs of Bicaz. Is recommended in treating asthenia, tiredness, hyper-thyroid. Leisure trips by boat; ski tracks. Surroundings:  Cheile Bicazului chalet -880m. alt.; Suhardul Mic-1352m. alt.; Hagimasul Mare-1793m. alt.; Piatra Singuratica chalet -1430m. alt.

Gheorgheni: city on the valley of Becheni river, in the area of Mures sources. Settled on the ancient centre, documentary mentioned in 1332. Museum (history, ethnography, natural sciences, plastic arts); monuments of architecture (XV-XVII century); fortress (XVI-XVIII;ruins); dendrology park. Surroundings: Lazarea village (castle, XVI-XVIII centuries, camp of sculpture in open air); Cerbu inn; Pangarati gorge (1175m. alt.); Bucin gorge (1287m. alt.)

Miercurea Ciuc: city on Ciucului depression, to Olt sources; residence of Harghita district. Documentary mentioned in 1332 (Sumuleu). Museum (history, ethnography, plastic art)-in Miko fortress (1621); baroque complex Sumuleu (XV-XIX centuries). Surroundings: baile Jigodin , 654m. alt. (recommended in treating rheumatism, cardio-vascular, alimentary channel affections; “Primavara harghitana”:-folkloric festival in May); baile Miercurea, 660m. alt. (recommended for diseases of locomotive system, alimentary channel); Harghita Bai, 1350m. alt., trough Vlahita gorge, 970m. alt. (recommended in treating cardio-vascular and endocrine diseases)

Odorheiul Secuiesc: city set on Tarnava Mare sources. Vestige from Bonze Age, Roman Camp (possible Aeropolis); documentary mentioned in 1334. Museum of history, natural sciences, ethnography; medieval fortification (XVI century; vestiges) monument of architecture (XVI-XVIII century). Surroundings: baile Sarata- 508m. alt. And Seiche-568m. alt. recommended for rheumatism, anemia, genecology problems.

Corund: village in the shore of the river with the same name. waters used from 1729. Pottery centre (glazed ceramics, blue dominating)

Praid: village settled to the springs of Tarnava Mica, at the foots of Harghita mountains. Salt mine exploited from antiquity; factory of matches in XIX century. Seasonal balneal-climacteric resort -580m. alt. recommended for rheumatism, marginal nervous system diseases, genecology; anti-asthmatic treatment-in the salt mine. Museum of mining history. Surroundings: Bucin chalet-1287m. alt.

Targu Mures: city placed on the middle stream of Mures; residence of Mures district. Neolithic, Scitian, Roman and Dacian vestiges. Present in Middle Age documents in 1316 as Novum forum siculorum. Museum of arts, library, the mirrors chamber – in Palatul Cultury –The Palace of Culture (1913); museum of history, archeology, ethnography; memorial museum Bolay and documentary library S. Teleki; fortress (XV-XVII century). Surroundings: Sangeorgiu de Mures village ( balneal resort, 351m. alt. for locomotive system, genecology affections).
