Trip for visiting some of the main balneal-climacteric resorts from both parts of the central area of Oriental Carpathians

Sfantul Gheorghe: city at the western crossing of Olt; residence of Covasna district. Daco-Roman vestiges; Sacerdos Sancta Giorgio, documentary attested in 1332. Museum of history, ethnography, popular art (1913); the house with arcades-1812; the monument of Romanian soldiers; monument of architecture (XV century); balneal resorts. Surroundings: Arcus village (sculpture camp); Baile Sugas, 750m. alt. (recommended for treating the rheumatism, cardio-vascular, alimentary channel diseases); Reci village (“mestecanis”- monument of nature, natural reservation).

Covasna: city on the valley of the river with the same name, on the territory of the large curbura of Oriental Carpathians, at the foots of the western versant of Vrancea mountains. Antiques and medieval vestiges. Permanent balneal-climacteric resort-600m. alt. with “1000 springs” recommended in treating the affections of the alimentary channel, cardio-vascular, kidneys, marginal nervous system, metabolism and genecology. Dacian fortification (Zanelor hill, IBC-I AC); Nedee mocaneasca (August). Surroundings: excursions in Vrancea mountains (Lacaut peak, 1777m. alt. ) Ghelinta village (monument of architecture, XIV century)

Targu Secuiesc: city on the shores of Turia river. Old settlement, important handicraft centre. Urban centre-architectonic reservation “curtile” (“the courts”) of the craftsmen from XVI-XVIII centuries; museums of history and archeology.

Bretcu: village on the shores of Oituz, at the exit from the mountains, to Moldavia. Grozesti village- the place of some important battles in 1916-1918; mausoleum and memorial monuments; archaic technical installations (darsta piua); potters; carving in stone and wood. Surroundings: Poiana Sarata village 450m. alt. (mineral waters for diseases of locomotive system , hepatic-digestive, genecology); Oituz gorge, 866m . alt.

Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej: city at the confluence of Oituz with Tazlau, Casin and Trotus. Museum (history, natural sciences); memorial monument (1916-1918); monumental sculpture from our times; monument of architecture (1494). Surroundings: Belci lake-leisure boats, chalets.

Casin: village in the valley of the river with the same name. old settlement, the place of great battles from the first world war. Rural architecture specific to wood decorations (trafouri); folk clothing and traditions; voivodal court (1655; vestiges); wood made monument of architecture (XVIII century); memorial monument (1916-1918).

Targu Ocna: city at the confluence of Slanic with Trotus. Geto-Dacian settlement, Roman salt exploitation. Seasonal balneal resort (280m. alt.) recommended in treating  rheumatism, genecology; anti- asthma – in salt mines.

Slanic Moldova: city on the shore of the river with the same name, on the eastern versant of Oituz mountains. Permanent balneal-climacteric resort (530m. alt.); in 1800 was discovered the first spring, the resort developed after 1877 and became “the pearl of Moldavia”. Therapeutic indications: affections of the alimentary channel, hepatic-biliary, respiratory, nutritional problems, marginal neurological affections, kidneys and urinal channel affections. Surroundings: hatchery, waterfall. (599m. alt.)

Darmanesti: village at the confluence of the river Uz with Trotus. Museum of ethnography and popular art (masks). Surroundings: Dofteana village (mineral springs; dendrology park, ethnography museum); excursions in Uz valley (inn).
Comanesti: city placed on Trotus valley. Old carbon mines. Monument of architecture (Ghica palace, XIX century).

Palanca: village on Trotus springs, close to Ghimes-Palanca gorge (1006m. alt.) from Ciuc mountains. Monument in the memory of Apostol Bologa, the brother of Liviu Rebreanu, hanged at 10th May, 1917 by the Austro-Hungarian authorities because he refused to fight against Romanians.

Miercurea Ciuc: city on Ciucului depression, to Olt sources; residence of Harghita district. Documentary mentioned in 1332 (Sumuleu). Museum (history, ethnography, plastic art)-in Miko fortress (1621); baroque complex Sumuleu (XV-XIX centuries). Surroundings: baile Jigodin , 654m. alt. (recommended in treating rheumatism, cardio-vascular, alimentary channel affections; “Primavara harghitana”:-folkloric festival in May); baile Miercurea, 660m. alt. (recommended for diseases of locomotive system, alimentary channel); Harghita Bai, 1350m. alt., trough Vlahita gorge, 970m. alt. (recommended in treating cardio-vascular and endocrine diseases)

Baile Tusnad: city on the superior valley of Olt, in Ciucului de Jos depression. Starts developing at the beginning of the XIX century, around a famous inn. Permanent balneal-climacteric resort (650m. alt.) recommended in treating the affections of the nervous system, cardio-vascular, for leisure and holidays. Ciucas lake. Surroundings: Stanca Soimilor, Turnu Alb, Cerbului valley, lake and chalet Sfanta Ana (950m. alt.).

Balvanyos: permanent balneal climacteric resort (850m. alt.) on the eastern versant of Bodoc mountains, at the sources of Turia river. Therapeutic indications: diseases of the cardio-vascular system, marginal nervous system, rheumatism; recommended for leisure and holidays. Ski tracks, ski-lifts. Fortress (XI-XII; ruins). Festival of song, dance and folk clothing in June.

Malnas-Bai: city placed on Olt defile, at the foots of Baraolt mountains. Balneal-climacteric resort (565m. alt.) recommended in treating the affections of the cardio-vascular system, alimentary channel, nutritional problems.

Valcele: village in the shores of the river with the same name. permanent balneal-climacteric resort (640m. alt.) recommended in treating the affections of the cardio-vascular system, alimentary channel, genecology, rheumatism, renal.
