An itinerary of central Transylvania

Cluj Napoca: city placed on the shores of Somesul Mic; residence of Cluj district. Vestiges from Superior Paleolithic, Dacian-Roman settlement (IIBC-IIAC), military fortification (castrum Clus) mentioned in 1173-1175. Museum of history of Transylvania, museums of art, ethnography ( also in open air – Hoia hill), museum of the pharmacy. Museum of sports; botanic garden and zoology museum; historic monuments; monuments of architecture and arts (XIV-XVIII century); fortress (XVII century; pieces from the walls and Turnul croitorilor-tower); memorial houses, statues (Mihai Viteazul, Matei Corvin, Lupoaica). Surroundings: Faget forest, Someseni baths (320m. alt.; recommended in treating the marginal nervous system and gastritis); Cojocna balneal resort (330m. alt.; recommended for diseases of the locomotive system, nervous system, genecology, anemia and debility.

Gherla: city placed on Somesul Mic valley. Camp and civil Roman settlement. Museum of history; castle 1555; old houses (XVIII century). Surroundings: balneal resort Baita -257m. alt. recommended in treating rheumatism, skin diseases, genecology.

Reghin: city from the superior valley of Mures, close to the confluence with Giurgiu. Documentary mentioned in 1288. Museum of ethnography;  monument of architecture (1330, 1748). Surroundings: Ideciu de Jos village ( balneal resort, 396m. alt. recommended for diseases of locomotive system and genecology treatments); Lapusa village- trips in Giurgiului mountains.

Targu Mures: city placed on the middle stream of Mures; residence of Mures district. Neolithic, Scitian, Roman and Dacian vestiges. Present in Middle Age documents in 1316 as Novum forum siculorum. Museum of arts, library, the mirrors chamber – in Palatul Cultury –The Palace of Culture (1913); museum of history, archeology, ethnography; memorial museum Bolay and documentary library S. Teleki; fortress (XV-XVII century). Surroundings: Sangeorgiu de Mures village ( balneal resort, 351m. alt. for locomotive system, genecology affections).

Sovata: city on the superior valley of Tarnava Mica, at the foots of Gugiului mountains. Documentary presence in 1597. Permanent balneal-climacteric resort-530m. alt. arranged after 1850. Therapeutic indications: rheumatism, genecology, neurology. Surroundings: Dealul Ciresului -912m. alt.; Seaca Mare mountain -1777m. alt.

Odorheiul Secuiesc: city set on Tarnava Mare sources. Vestige from Bonze Age, Roman Camp (possible Aeropolis); documentary mentioned in 1334. Museum of history, natural sciences, ethnography; medieval fortification (XVI century; vestiges) monument of architecture (XVI-XVIII century). Surroundings: baile Sarata- 508m. alt. And Seiche-568m. alt. recommended for rheumatism, anemia, genecology problems.

Medias: city set on the shores of Tarnava mare river. Vestiges from the Bronze Age and Iron Age; documentary attested in 1267 – Villa Medies. Fortress (XIV-XV; vestiges); museum of history; monuments of architecture (XVI-XVII century). Surroundings:  Baza (permanent balneal-climacteric resort, 321m. alt., recommended for treating the diseases of locomotive system, genecology).

Biertan: village placed on the valley of the river with the same name. ancient settlement, vestiges from IV century. Ground fortress; medieval fortification (1522), trough the most imposing from Transylvania; old architecture (XVIII-XIX with the symbols of the past’s crafts.

Sighisoara: city set on the shore of the river Tarnava Mare. Marks of Wietengerg, Dacian, Roman cultures; documentary attested in 1191, 1288; fortress (XIII-XVI), the most representative  medieval urban settlement from the country; history museum; monuments of architecture (XIII-XVIII); Pasajul Scarilor.

Turda: city at the confluence of Tur with Aries. Dacian settlement, than Camp and Roman city under the same name – Potaissa. Documentary mentioned in 1197. Museum (of history, archeology) in Voivodal Palace (XV-XVI century); monuments of architecture (XV-XVI century); fortress (XII century, marks) Baile Sarate ( on the previous Roman salt mines, 350m. alt., recommended for rheumatism, genecology). Surroundings: monument dedicated to Mihai Viteazul; cheile Turzii (natural reservation, touristic halting place-450m. alt.) including this objective.
