Route Description:

The trip presents some of the most representative touristic areas from Bihor, Salaj and Cluj districts

Oradea: city settled on the shores of Crisul Repede; residence-city of Bihor district. Neolithic vestiges, antiques, from the Romanian principality period under the leading of Menumorut (IX-X century); documentary attested in 1113. The museum of Tarii Crisurilor (history, natural sciences, plastic arts, documentary library)- in Episcopal Palace (1799), memorial museums Iosif Vulcan and Ady Endre; monuments of architecture (XIV-XIX century); fortress (1570, XVIII century).

Baile Felix: permanent balneal-climacteric resort (140m. alt.), trough the largest and the famous from the country, with thermal springs known and used from XV-XVII century. Therapeutic indications: affections of locomotive system, marginal and general nervous system, genecology, alimentary channel and annex gland. Surroundings: Baile 1 mai (warm baths, basins with artificial waves).

Beius: city placed on the superior valley of Crisul Negru. Documentary mentioned in 1270, former Romanian voivodal residence and court seat (XIV century). Museum of history and ethnography. Surroundings: Finis village (“Beiusului fortress”, XIII century); Meziad village (cave, trough the most interesting in the country), Chiscau village (Ursilor cave).

Stana de Vale: climacteric and winter sports practicing resort (1102m. alt.) settled in Vladeasa mountains. Is recommended in treating endocrine affections and asthenia neurosis.

Dr. Petru Groza: city set on the superior stream of Crisul Negru, at the foots of Bihor mountains. Surroundings: Nucet city- seasonal balneal-climacteric resort.

Arieseni: village placed at the springsof Ariesul Mare. Wood architecture, specific to the area ( XVIII-XIX century). Surroundings: Bihor summit (1849m.). the highest from Apuseni mountains; the glacier and Scarisoara chalet (1108m. altitude).

Garda de sus: village from the superior valley of Aries. Wood architecture and traditional clothing, famous borough. Surroundings: chalet and glacier Scarisoara; Cucubata Mica summit (1770m. alt. )

Horea: village (former Arada village) placed on the valley of the springs of Aries. Place of birth of Vasile Nicola-Ursu, alias Horea, the main leader of the peasant revolt from 1784. Peasant traditional architecture, folkloric clothing specific to the region.

Fantanele-Belis-Tarnita: area of high touristic perspective, as a result of hydro-energetic arrangements from Somesul Cald. Touristic complex on the shore of Fantanele lake.

Gilau: village placed at the confluence of Somesul Rece with Somesul Cald. Settlement documentary mentioned in 1212, possible fortified residence of Gelu voivode. Roman Camp, civil settlement and stone quarry; medieval fortification (1439) transformed in castle (XV century) rebuilt in 1877.

Cluj Napoca: city placed on the shores of Somesul Mic; residence of Cluj district. Vestiges from Superior Paleolithic, Dacian-Roman settlement (IIBC-IIAC), military fortification (castrum Clus) mentioned in 1173-1175. Museum of history of Transylvania, museums of art, ethnography ( also in open air – Hoia hill), museum of the pharmacy. Museum of sports; botanic garden and zoology museum; historic monuments; monuments of architecture and arts (XIV-XVIII century); fortress (XVII century; pieces from the walls and Turnul croitorilor-tower); memorial houses, statues (Mihai Viteazul, Matei Corvin, Lupoaica). Surroundings: Faget forest, Someseni baths (320m. alt.; recommended in treating the marginal nervous system and gastritis); Cojocna balneal resort (330m. alt.; recommended for diseases of the locomotive system, nervous system, genecology, anemia and debility.

Sanmihaiu Almasului: village settled on Almasului valley, representative centre of popular culture (wood architecture). Rural museum. Surroundings: Zibor village (architectural monument wood made, XVI century) Dragu village (archeology reservation; former Bethlen castle, 1500).

Zalau: city settled on the valley of the river with the same name, at the northern extremity of Meses mountains, residence of Salaj district. Under the name of Ziloc appears in Chronicle of Anonymus (XII century), important borough in XIV century and documentary attested in 1473. Museum of history and art, statues: Simion Barnutiu, Andy Endre. Surroundings: Mezes chalet-450m. alt.; Moigrad village- Porolissum Roman city; ruins; Guruslau village- monument dedicated to Mihai Viteazul.

Simleu Silvanei: city placed on Crasnei valley, at the foots of Magura Simleului. Vestiges of a Dacian fortress (probable Dokidava); documentary attested in 1251. Fortified castle of Bathory family-1532; ruins.

Nusfalau: village placed on Barcaului valley. Famous horses market. Monument of architecture.

Boghis: village to Barcau springs. Permanent balneal resort recommended in treating locomotive system, genecology, dermatology. Surroundings: Valcau de Jos village (fortress, XIII century, ruins; folkloric area).

Biharia: village placed on Crisul Repede basin. Vestiges of some settlements from V-VI and IX-XIII centuries; Castrum Byhor (Belland)-ground fortification (marks), centre of the state formations leaded by Menumorut (IX-X century).
