A trip trough Banat that emphasize the value of the main cities, balneal-climacteric resorts and areas of touristic interest from the region

Baile Herculane: city set on the inferior course of Cerna. Permanent balneal-climacteric resort-160m. alt., with thermal mineral waters widely used in Roman antiquity (Therme Herculi). Therapeutic indications: affections of the locomotive system, genecology, professional diseases, affections of the alimentary channel. Ancient balneal installations; constructions from the old sanatorium complex (XVIII-XIX century); museum of history, the statue of Hercules-1847. Surroundings: Domogled mountain (natural reservation, 1100-1300m. alt.); Grota haiducilor, Grota cu aburi (caves), Cernei valley.

Caransebes: city placed at the confluence of Sebes with Timis. Neolithic vestiges, Dacian settlement, than Roman Camp Tibiscum ( II AC  ). Attested in 1289 under the name of Sebes, unites with Caran locality in XV century, composing the name from today. Museum of history and ethnography (in the former barrack of the guards, XVIII century); the monument of the general Ion Gragalina (1860-1916). Surroundings: Muntele Mic- climacteric and winter sports practicing, 1540m. alt.

Lugoj: city set on the stream of Timis. In the ancient centre, documentary attested in 1334. Museum of history, natural sciences, ethnography; Birtul Postei-1726.

Buzias: city settled in Banat field; permanent balneal-climacteric resort -128m. alt. with mineral springs known from the Roman antiquity, developed after 1870. Therapeutic indications: cardio-vascular, urinal channel, alimentary channel affections, anemia.

Timisoara: city set on the shores of Bega river; residence of Timis district. From Neolithic, elements of uninterrupted human culture; “Castrum temesiensis” documentary mentioned in 1212. Hunazilor Castle (1308, 1856)-museum of history, natural sciences, ethnography, plastic arts; fortress(XVI century, remains); old city hall (1734), old prefecture(1754), “Dicasterial” palace (XIX century, 273 rooms), the house “with tree”. Surroundings: natural reservation “Arboretum”-Bazos; Calacea village, (permanent balneal resort, 117m. alt. recommended in treating the affections of the locomotive system, genecology).

Deta: city in Banat’s field, on Barzavei valley, museum of ethnography.

Bocsa: city set on Barzavei valley, locality mentioned in documents in the XVI century; “bocsa” is the amount of wood from which is charcoal obtained. Ruins of some gold mines exploited by Romans; medieval fortification-Buza Turcului-ruins. Surroundings: the lakes from Vartoape, Dognecei mountains.

Resita: city settled on Barzavei, residence of Caras-Severin district. Documentary presence from XV century. In Resita or Racita is founded the first iron-metallurgy factory in 1769, and in 1873 the first locomotive is made. The museum of locomotives; zoology garden. Surroundings: Soceni village (natural reservation with fossil deposit); Valiug village (reservoir; climacteric resort Crivaia, 590m. alt.); Prislop gorge (982m. alt.); touristic village Garana and climacteric resort Trei Ape (850m. alt.); Semenic (climacteric and winter-sports practicing resort, 1410m. alt.)

Oravita: city placed at the western foots of Aninei mountains, with elements of climacteric resort (331m. alt.). mines of gold and cooper exploited by Romans; he first railway from Romania (Oravita – Bazias, 1849). Museum of theatre history, ethnography, pharmacy, theatre (1789-1817, the oldest from the country). Surroundings: dam lakes (1733), climacteric locality Marila, Oravita-Anina railway(14 tunnels, 10 viaducts); Sasca Montana village (Beusnitei waterfalls, Ochiul Beului lake, Nera keys)

Anin: city set in the centre of Banat’s camp, with elements of climacteric resort-780m. alt. Surrounings: lake and touristic resort Marghitas, lake and cave Buhui; area with karsts Carasova; Minisului keys.

Bozovici: village placed on Minisului valley, in the environ of the confluence with Nera (Almajului depression). Representative folkloric and ethnographic area, of old tradition. Surroundings: Plesuva Mare summit, 1160m. altitude (karst formations, Beusnita reservation);  Rudariei keys- Nerei keys; Baile Herculane.
