TRANSFAGARASAN & CAMPULUNG – BRAN

Route Description:

Bucuresti- Targoviste- Campulung- Bran- Rasnov- Fagaras- Cartisoara- Balea Cascada- Vidraru- Curea de Arges- Pitesti-Golesti-Potlogi- Bucuresti

Of a large extend, the trip sums up two spectacular mountainous crossings (Transfagarasan and Campulung-Bran) with the visit of the three former capital-fortresses of Wallachia- Campulung, Cutea de Arges, Targoviste

Bucharest: the capital of Romania, locality placed on the shores of the rivers Dambovita and Colentina. Material marks from Paleolithic, documentary presence from 20 September 1459. Main politic, administrative, economical and cultural centre of the country. The old city (XVI; ruins), architectural monuments (XVI-XX century), The Museum of History of Bucharest, The Museum of art collections, The Museum of the village and folk art, The Museum of natural history Grigore Antipa, commemorative plates, statues, theaters, parks, lakes and resort areas—-leisure area , restaurants, summer gardens. Baneasa forest (zoological garden, restaurant, wine-shop, touristic halting place-10km.)

Targoviste: city settled on the superior course of Ialomita, residence of Dambovita district. The third capital-city of Wallachia (1396-1659) where 33 leaders has their residence, trough them: Mircea cel Batran, Petru Cercel, Mihai Viteazul, Constantin Brancoveanu. The leader’s fortress (XIV-XVII centuries; ruins)monument of architecture (XIV-XVII centuries); museum of history, the museum of printing and old Romanian book, the museum of Targoviste’s writers, the house-studio of the painter Gh. Petrascu. Surroundings:  Dealul (historical and architectural monument, XV century); Pucioasa-town, permanent balneal-climacteric resort (350m. alt.), recommended for the affections of locomotive system; touristic halting place. Downstream on Ialomita valet, DN 71 passes trough Fieni, Pietrosita and Moroieni from where, on Ialomicioara valley and trough Paduchiosu gorge (1032m. alt.), crosses Bucegi descending in Sinaia.

Campulung: city on Targului river. Antique vestiges, the first capital-city of Wallachia (around 1330-1250). Museums of history, ethnography, medieval art, plastic arts, architecture monument (XVII-XVIII centuries). Surroundings: Bugea de Sus village ( seasonal balneal-climacteric resort, 590m. altitude, recommended in treating the affections of locomotive system, genecology, alimentary channel; Namesti (memorial museum George Toparceanu); Voina chalet (at the foots of Iezer-Papusa mountains, 950m. alt.)

Bran: village settled on Turcului valley, in the south side of Tare Barsei, Castle (XIV century) mastered by Mircea cel Batran and Obstea of Brasov, one of the most valuable construction of this type from the country-history and medieval art museum, ethnographic collection in open air. Surroundings: Bucegi mountains (Omu summit) and Piatra Craiului; Giuvala gorge (1275m. alt.)

Rasnov: settledon the shore of Ghimbav river; Dacian settlement, that Cumidava Roman camp. “peasant fortress” (XIV-XVIII); architectural monuments (XIII-XV century) surroundings: Postavarului keys, Cheisoara, Ghimbavul Mare; Predeal.

Fagaras: city placed on the middle course of Olt, in “Tara Fagarasului”-“The country of Fagaras”, known also as “Terra Blachorum” in the XIII century. Museum of history, ethnography, natural sciences; castle (XIV-XVII centuries) and fortress (XVIII century); monument of architecture (XVII-XVIII). Surroundings: Sambata touristic complex (690-1400m. alt.)
Cartisoara: village set on the valley of the river with the same name. memorial museum Badea Cartan.

Balea Cascada: touristic area of high interest as a result of the construction of hydro-energetic complex from the Arges sources. Reservoir, dam, statue “Electricitatea”, Cumpana chalet, Valea cu pesti-the valley with fishes. Surroundings:  Arges keys; the fortress from Poienari (XIV-XV century).

Curtea de Arges: city settled on the superior course of Arges. Voievodal residence in XIII century, the second capital-city of Wallachia (1350-13996). The main fortress of the leader (XIII-XIV century; ruins); architectural monuments (XIII-XVIII century); the Fantana of Manole. Surroundings: Bradetu (balneal-climacteric resort, 685m. alt., recommended for treating the affections of locomotive system, alimentary channel, in convalescents).

Pitesti: city, the main urban settlement from Arges valley; residence of Arges district. Famous borough, documentary attested in 1338. Museum of history, plastic arts, natural sciences, Trivale park.

Golesti: village settled in the left side of the Arges. Fortified manor (1642), propriety of Golescu family in XVIII century; museum of history, pedagogy; the museum of Romanian fruit tree growing and viticulture

Potlogi: village placed in the meadow of the rivers Sabar and Arges. Palace built by C. Brancoveanu (1698), trough the most representative monuments of this way from the country; monument of architecture (1683).
