MUSEUMS-MEMORIAL HOUSES
From the centre of Campina city, the road to Doftana starts to east and descends on the large valley of Doftana brook, for climbing on the other shore, to Teleaga, old settlement with salt mine, where the rebels were punished. Here on the top of a hill, was built during 1894-1897, an immense prison, now museum, with 397 cells, after a Belgian type. The prison had eight sections, from which only three did not have natural light, and one –the famous H section- was completely dark. In 1907 were brought the countrymen condemned after the revolt. As a result of the earthquake from the night of 9-10 November, 1940, the walls of the prison fell and buried numerous convicts. The museum reveals to nowadays generations the conditions of tough cruelty that the convicts endure.
Nicolae Grigorescu memorial museum
After passing the centre of Campina city, just on the side of the road, we can find the house where Nicolae Grigorescu spent his last years of life (1838-1907). Destroyed after the First World War, the house was rebuilt in 1957 as memorial museum. Trough the objects of personal use, furniture, embroideries and upholstery that belonged to the painter and documents about his life and work, in the house his studio was remade and numerous paintings and sketches from his artistic creation are exhibit.
Bogdan Petriceanu Hasdeu memorial museum
To the exit from Campina, on the left side of the road, is a building of a
bizarre architecture. Is the castle were B.P. Hasdeu (1836-1907) spend his last years of life. He was a remarkable literary man, a scientist, founder and leader of more periodical publications of history and literature. He retired at Campina after the death of her daughter Iulia (1888), building the castle in 1893-1896. Today the castle is a museum, sheltering numerous objects, books, manuscripts, photographs.
In Mircesti village, near Siret meadow, in a beautiful park is the house where the poet Vasile Alecsandri lived and created the best part of his work. Also here, in the park of the house is his tomb. Restored, the house was transformed in 1957 in a memorial museum very interesting and valuable trough more than 3400 objects that belonged to the poet. Manuscripts, documents, personal library, all the editions of his creations are exposed in the six rooms of the house, being visited by a great amount of tourists from all over the country.
