COUNTY BRASOV
Brasov is the largest and one of the oldest urban centers, not only of the Internal Depression of Carpathians Curbura, but from the entire Carpathian chain. Together with urban centers in the immediate area: the cities of Sacele, Zarnesti, Codlea, Rasnov and Predeal, Brasov forms one of the most advanced urban agglomeration in the country. The existence of extensive alpine pastures and hayfields has favored from early times an intense pastoral life on the county’s territory. It is documentary attested, from the end of the XIIth century and the beginning of XIIIth century, in the handicraft centers, especially in Brasov, that the processing of leathers, metals and wool had a big growth. From that time Brasov became one of the leading providers of Wallachia and Moldavia of handicraft products. The exchange of products of Brasov county, Wallachia and Moldova led to the development of an intense commercial life, especially since the XIV-th century till the end of XIX-th century. The development of the relations with Wallachia and Moldova was also facilitated by the existence of Carpathian passages which has favored that important trade routes to head towards the city of Brasov. Its position at the contact between various geographical areas, each with different natural resources, has facilitated a strong exchange of products.
